Abby Jimenez has slowly moved up another notch my list of favorite authors especially in the contemporary romance sub-genre. This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2023 and I was not disappointed at all.
‘Truly Yours’ is the second book in the ‘Part of your World’ series which focuses on Briana as the protagonist. With her divorce recently finalized, and the weight of her brother’s health condition on her shoulders, Briana is in no mood to deal with the new guy everyone seems to dislike who has joined her emergency team at the hospital. However, when Jacob writes her a letter, it opens a door that leads them both into a friendship that they never planned and now that Jacob is stepping forward to be the kidney donor for her brother, she cannot love him more.
This was such a treat for me. Although I’m not too keen on both miscommunication and fake dating troupes, this story was so well crafted that it made these troupes really interesting. I liked the fact that the protagonists who were both at emotionally vulnerable places in their lives were able to weave through all the uncertainties together despite the stereotypic notions they and the people around them believed about two people like them. I also loved how the author handled the themes around social anxiety and having trust issues after being in a previous toxic relationship. I found it really realistic although at some point I started to get kind of cross with Briana even though I understand that it can be a very hard place to be. Jacob on the other hand was such a darling, he was my favorite character. Most importantly, Abby’s consistent style of using humor to douse heavy themes is commendable and this made the read more enjoyable. In the end, I got my happy ending and was worth my time.
I highly recommend this book to all romance lovers although due to some of the heavy themes which include kidney disease, divorce due to cheating, social anxiety, I would advise that you approach it with caution.
