As we all know, social media now plays a huge role in the lives of most people around the world as it is one of the primary ways of connecting and building/sustaining relationships. Even people who would rather spend their time inside the pages of books like me have been swept into the frenzy of the latest trends and what nots on social media. While this has grown to be a source of distraction as many have pointed out so very often in recent times for both old and young people alike, I think there are some positive influences which are not often highlighted when social media and how it influences people in general is discussed.
While I agree with many that engaging too much (which is relative) with social media has negative effects on readers or people who would like to spend more of their time reading due to the addictive tendencies it has on its users, I would like to focus on the positive ways it has influenced many readers like me. They are as follows;

- It connects readers to a larger community of fellow book lovers from all parts of the world they would never have had the opportunity to meet or engage with.
- It encourages readers to explore new genres and authors they would not have ordinarily ventured into.
- They have access to bite-sized book reviews and recommendations.
- Allows readers to connect with their favorite authors.

5. It encourages readers to read more books through reading challenges, virtual book clubs and other activities.
6. It provides book/reading related entertainment for readers such as beautiful and inspiring photos of books and funny bookish videos.

7. It provides readers with the latest information about new book releases and updates on their favorite authors, bloggers and friends.
8. It encourages readers to explore reading in formats different from what they are used to such as audiobooks and eBooks.

Are there any other positive ways social media has influenced you as a reader? Share with us in the comments.
Have a lovely day.
