Genre: Contemporary Fiction

This is the last book in this series and having really enjoyed the second book which turned out to be my first 5 star read of the year, you can imagine how pumped up I was to read this one.

The story follows Sarah, a mother of two young adult sons, a to-be divorced husband and editor at a magazine. Her best friend, Lenny who recently passed away has left her money to take her cremated remains to Italy where they had their best holiday together as young girls. While Sarah contemplates when to make this trip, a few things happen in one day that pushes her to be spontaneous and leave for Italy on a whim. On this trip, Sarah gets the rare opportunity to clear her head and take stock of her life. She finally ends up at Ronnie’s apartment where like the other women before her, she rediscovers herself and begins a journey towards a better future.

This story started really well, and I was quickly drawn into the narrative however, as it went along, it seemed to plateau for a long time and never really picked up properly. I feel that the parts of the story when she stayed in Florence with Boo and Carlos was too long and winded which didn’t add too much to the story. Also, the back and forth with her husband was tiring and lost its touch after some time. While it wasn’t a bad story, compared to the first two, it was a far cry from what I expected. It was just too average for me, and I think this is one of the first books by this author that has made me feel this way. Nevertheless, I was happy that Sarah’s life took a turn for the better and I got a happy ending.

I would recommend this book, but it may be better to read it as a standalone.
