I have had this story and the characters living rent free in my head for too long and it’s time to let them all out here. Hopefully, they will give me the rest I need.
Roommates is a romance story with multiple tropes such as close proximity, class disparity, good girl/bad boy, and love triangle. It follows Ariella Mason and ‘bad boy’ Caleb Black and how they got together. Ariella and Caleb both work in the same company but have never quite crossed paths until Ariella desperately needs a place to stay, and Caleb has an available room in his flat to rent. As she moves into the flat, the story begins to unfold and the reasons why she decided to leave her posh life and live on her own (well with Caleb) come to the surface. At first, Ariella is obviously suspicious of Caleb as his reputation with women is common knowledge and he doesn’t help it with the number of girls he brings home. However, as they both get to know each other, they begin to grow fond of each other, first as friends and then feelings begin to get in the way. Caleb has never been in an exclusive relationship before, and Ariella has only dated one man who she has known most of her life. How can this possibly work? There’s also the angle where they are from polar opposite backgrounds which make the possibilities of a relationship more complicated, but this only seems to have stirred things up so are they ready to fight for what they feel for each other?
Since I am writing this review after reading the second book in this series, I would make this one short and share all my thoughts in my review of the second book. The book started really well and drew me in completely. Then, when Ariella’s secret comes to light and we get to know the back story with her ex-boyfriend, it takes a different dimension all together. I must say that all three main characters stressed me out but in the way that causes you to scream into the book, but you keep reading it because you are already invested. I like the way the author told this story, keeping you hooked as she throws out different perspectives from her hat of tricks like family drama, miscommunication, the annoying love triangle situation, and others to complicate an already complicated situation. In a nutshell, I enjoyed the read and when it ended with the cliff hanger, I didn’t think I took another breath before opening the next consignment and started reading it which is rightly titled ‘Complicated’.
If you love you some drama with characters that do your head in, but you love them anyway, then you may enjoy reading this book. I recommend. Watch out for my review of the next book in this series.
Many thanks to the author for sending me these two books and well done for keeping me hooked on this story.
The Author:

Ola has spent the last 15 years delivering global events for her clients, giving her more material on human behaviour ‘when nobody is watching’ than she can exhaust.
She spends most of her time observing the symbiotic relationship between the joys and inadequacies of life while stuffing her face with cookies and laughing at the most inappropriate things a little too loudly.
Her favourite things are her loving daughter, her long-suffering husband, falling asleep in hot yoga and having maybe too many glasses of wine with her gossipy friends.
She lives in South West London, and dreams of living elsewhere. All the time. She may have cried at the boarding pass history in her digital wallet during the pandemic. There is no way to confirm or refute that claim.
Ola is a member of the Society of Authors and an emerging author.
