This is the second book in the ‘Lagos Plastic Surgeons series’ and while I was eager to jump into reading this one because I really enjoyed the first book which was one of my favourite reads last year, I have had great difficulty reading physical books for a while now based on my current commitments and schedule.

This installment is a friends to lovers trope that follows Oke, the tough Plastic Surgeon who isn’t interested in dating or marriage and Arinze, the young widower who is still mourning the loss of his wife. However, when Oke receives a diagnosis of breast cancer, Arinze who she has built a good friendship with, decides to provide her with the support she needs throughout her treatment. In the process, they begin to catch feelings for each other but wonder if their feelings are real or they are not just carried away by the overpowering physical attraction they feel. Will Oke change her mind about relationships and is Arinze really ready to move on from his loss?

I finished this book in one sitting and regretted why I hadn’t made time to read it sooner, but what can I say? Life happened! I enjoyed Oke and Arinze’s story who were characters I had already been introduced to in the first book in this series. I liked the way the author explored themes around loss, grief, dealing with a terminal diagnosis, and past hurts. I also liked the way we were able to understand why the characters made certain choices, and it was lovely to go through the journey with both of them and see how they were able to address their underlying fears and influences. I always liked Arinze’s character from book 1 and I loved him even more in this story. Oke despite her hardened exterior was still likable and I could relate with her choices. This made me root for them till the end. There are quite a number of spicy scenes which fit perfectly with the story line and made it authentic so watch out for those. My only issue in the beginning was the fact that Oke had introduced Nkem her best friend to Arinze in book 1 and they went on a few dates together and although they never took it further, I just feel some type of way about friends “dating” the same person. However, when I got passed that, I allowed myself to enjoy the story, and I really did.

I highly recommend to all romance lovers especially if you enjoy a bit of spice. As I mentioned earlier, the story has themes around loss, grief, terminal illness, and even suicide so if you are triggered by any of these, approach reading this with caution. Off to read the next book in the series.
