Book Review: Rebel Heir by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward

Genre: Romance

I have been wanting to read another book by this author duo since I read ‘Dirty Letters’ which happens to be my favorite romance novel of all time (until another book takes its place) but all their book covers are literally off-putting and by that, I mean pictures of overly sexy looking men (laughing out loud) and I won’t be able to explain to the press why “Sister Biyai” is reading “such books” so I never quite did until last week when I saw myself slipping into a reading slump that could only be salvaged by something outrageously lovely, so I decided to damn the consequences and read this book especially with the fabulous reviews. I don’t regret it one bit.

Rebel Heir follows Mia, a writer who has rented a shared summer home in the Hamptons to write her novel, and Rush, the young owner of ‘The Heights’ a bar/restaurant including other businesses. Mia’s roommate who works at ‘The Heights’ asks her to help cover her shift due to an emergency and Mia agrees. It is on that day she meets Rush who after a heated argument offers her a job there and she accepts the offer especially since she needs one so badly. Rush and Mia have an instant attraction to each other but both of them have things that are holding them back from following through. Rush has a rule never to date his employees, and Mia knows Rush is the non-committal, so they circle each other for a while until their feelings get the better of them and they give in despite their fears. As they begin to navigate their new relationship, Mia discovers something that will definitely end their relationship. How can they survive being apart? The book explores themes such childhood abandonment, good single parenting, trauma, true friendship, and love.

This book is a great example of why I love romance or great romance stories. I started smiling right from the beginning of the book because it was witty and the banter between the main characters was entertaining. Even the minor characters, I loved as they complimented the story so well. I loved almost everything about this story. The emotions, the need, the care, the growth into each other, and the cliffhanger at the end which made me instantly jump into the second book without thinking twice. Although, at some point, I could predict what the revelation would be and what the premise of the second book in the series (currently reading) would be, it was still so well written that I enjoyed the journey. As expected, the book has some very steamy scenes that not everyone may like to read but because I know the authors write steamy romance it wasn’t a surprise. This is what good romance stories are made of, not too long, great banter, fantastic story line, and lovable characters. I honestly don’t know why I have been sleeping on this author duo because I am now about to read every single book they have written together (wish me luck).

I highly recommend to all romance book lovers but if you DON’T like steamy stories, please DO NOT read this book as it is not for you.
