Genre: Christian Fiction

As sucker for Christian fiction who has been actively looking for new Christian fiction authors to explore, I was glad to come across this author who has just published her debut novel. I decided to give it a try, so I went in blindly to read it with zero expectations.

This is an enemies-to-lovers/close proximity troupe that follow Levi, a born-again Christian young man who works for a luxury events planning brand, and Vivian, a recent graduate from the university trying to find her feet. While their first meeting left both Levi and Vivien with a somewhat bad impression of each other, they are thrown together when Levi’s boss offers Vivien a job. As they share the same workspace and work together, they realize that they don’t only like each other but may be developing feeling for each other. However, they are not sure a relationship would work as Levi believes he must only date and marry a girl who has a close relationship with God and Vivien is not interested in giving her life to God due to past trauma. This is a story about love, loss, grief, forgiveness, restoration, and happy endings.

Since I don’t do well with slow-burn stories, it took me a while to get into this story. I liked the themes and the premise of the story, especially around Levi’s loss and grief. However, I think it took too long for the story to get into a place where the reader sits up to anticipate what will happen next. I was also a bit thrown off by the way the story was narrated as we had to sometimes read about the same events from both Levi and Vivien’s POV which made it somewhat repetitive and didn’t really add much to the story. It was after I got into the last 10 chapters that I began to enjoy the story but by that time I was already stretched. For a debut, I think the author has done a good job with this book and I hope to read more of her work in the near future, hopefully with something that will hit me from the get-go.

If you like slow-burn Christian fiction romance stories, this may be your book. It is also a good recommendation for younger Christian readers as it a great example of a clean romance story.
