If you have ever visited this blog, you would know that the author is not only my favorite Christian fiction author but one of my favorite authors of all time. Also, I have at several times, named this book as one of my top 10 favorite books of all time so you can imagine my excitement to get into reading it again after so many years.
Redeeming love is a retelling of the biblical story of the Prophet Hosea. It follows the life of “Angel”, a young girl born out of wedlock and then loses her mother at a tender age of eight years. Sold into prostitution by her mother’s lover, she sees life only through the lenses of abuse, lust, and the wickedness of man until she meets Michael Hosea. From the moment Michael sets his eyes on Angel, God tells him she will be his wife. Although Angel works in a brothel and is the last person a man like Micael should associate with, he obeys God and does all he can to rescue her from the life she has always known. God creates a miraculous opportunity, and Michael marries Angel and takes her home however, can Angel live the life of a farmer’s wife and settle down with Michael? This is a story about the unconditional love God has for us, redemption, faith, patience, hope, forgiveness, and new beginnings.
Although this was a reread, it still hit home like the first time. I was again touched by Angel’s story and what she had to go through in life due to no fault of hers but was also uplifted by the fact that God is really the father to the fatherless and loves all his children unconditionally no matter what. Michael Hosea’s character has yet again challenged my faith and has made me look inward and search my heart. His genuine obedience and trust in God even at the worst times is something to aspire for, and this is why reading books like this is not just for the pleasure of reading a story but serves as a sermon that pricks your heart unto repentance and sanctification. Of course, I disliked Paul’s character but there lies a big question. As Christians, are we not also quick to judge those who we feel are “too sinful”, It was food for thought. It is obvious I enjoyed every bit of reading this book and I am sure to rinse and repeat sometime next year.
I highly recommend this book to all Christians. There is so much to learn here and also enjoy. If you haven’t yet read this book, what are you waiting for? Go get yourself a copy.
