This is the third book in the “Sovereign Love” series by the author and after reading the first two books in this series I was eagerly looking forward to reading this one, however as I usually do when reading series especially those that can be read as standalone novels, I take breaks in-between books and read other books before coming back to it. I have done the same with this series as well. Coming back to it though felt like continuing a conversation with a friend which is always good vibes. You can check out my review of the on this blog.

The story follows Heather and Emmanuel. Heather, we already met in books 1 & 2, as Teeyana’s room mate who later got saved through her friendship with Teeyana. Years later, Heather has to move back home to New Jersey as her Start-up didn’t work out as planned and she decided to take an internship position at Madu Health to kick-start her career in marketing. Emmanuel on the other hand is the managing director of Madu Health and while everyone around him expects that he would easily step into his father’s shoes to take over the company as CEO soon, Emmanuel has other plans and sees this as a burden. After Heather begins her internship with the company and particularly working on one of the most important projects on the company’s plate, both Emmanuel and Heather spend a lot more time together and realize, they want more than just to be work buddies. However, Heather is still dealing with a lot of personal struggles from her past one of which has showed up to haunt her and is affecting her relationship with God. Will she trust God and follow his lead, or will she fall back to her old ways of trying to solve her problems the way she has done in the past? Will Emmanuel step up to his father and follow his dream, and will he pursue the strong feeling he has for Heather? This is a story that carries strong themes around dealing with your past as a new believer, forgiveness, honoring your parents while making your own way, inter-racial relationships, and more.

This was a bit of a slow-burn for me, so it took me a while to get into the story. I think the major problem I had in the beginning was that I didn’t think the ease at which Emmanuel and Heather’s relationship started off was believable. Based on the fact that Emmanuel’s father is portrayed in the story as a typical Nigerian Igbo man, I didn’t see Emmanuel easily fall for Heather without a hesitation of thinking, this is a white girl. I understand that Emmanuel and his sister were born and raised in the US but that innate thing that most Nigerian men and women have before they go into an inter-racial relationship was not fully explored in my opinion. That said, almost halfway into the book, I was hooked. I found Heather’s struggles and journey really touching and thought-provoking. It brought to light important conversations that are not usually brought to the fore when new believers begin their faith journey. The theme around forgiveness and letting go of past hurts was really brought to life in this story and it gave me a lot to ponder about which is why reading Christian fiction is now a huge part of my reading life. I love the fact that Heather and Emmanuel got together and how well the story ended. This is one of those books you only realize how much you enjoyed reading it after you finish reading the book.

Yes, you guessed it! I highly recommend this book to all Christian fiction lovers and even romance lovers. It can be read as a standalone novel so feel free to start the series with this book. Looking forward to reading the last installment of this series and I’m having a good feeling about it because I have already met the protagonist in the story and I love her character already. Look out for my review soon.
