Welcome to Word Play Wednesday!
Word Play Wednesday is a weekly feature of written and spoken word poetry. I will be sharing my written and spoken word poems exclusive to my wonderful subscribers. If you are interested in sharing some of your poetry, feel free to buzz me and we can work something out.
I hope that you enjoy reading and listening to my thoughts, feelings and rants and in many ways relate to some of them.
Enjoy!
70X7
Dear brother,
I have lied with
my lips and my silence,
taken what was
never placed in my hands,
fractured trust and watched
it fall
like glass at our feet
I have ended life
not only with violence,
but with indifference,
with the turning away.
I have been unfaithful
to promises,
heavy-footed on tender hearts,
careless with honor,
quick to choose myself
over love.
Still, you say, I forgive you.
How many times can mercy rise
from the ache of offense?
How long before forgiveness
grows tired of bleeding?
And you say to me
not seven times,
but seventy times seven times,
grace without a ledger,
love without an end.
So I stand here
uncovered, unworthy,
held not by my goodness,
but by your mercy.
And in being forgiven,
I am learning
how to be a brother too.
