The Courage to Be
Courage is
packing your bags,
saying goodbye
to family,
to friends,
to everything.
To step into the unknown
in faith, hope.
The audacity to
start from scratch.
Forgetting what is behind
and stretching forth to what is ahead.
Trusting God above all.
Courage is
stepping out of toxicity,
of chaos.
Saying no more.
Saying I deserve better.
Saying I am worth more.
I am still afraid
but I’ll will do it anyway.
Courage is
speaking up
for yourself.
For the weak.
For truth and justice
in the face of shame.
Courage to be disliked.
To be different.
To stand out.
Color in white.
A star in the night.
To fight to stay true
to God,
and to self.
Courage is
loving completely.
Giving without hope
to receive.
Offering forgiveness
when it still hurts.
Grieving the loss of
love, life, and legacy,
but still showing up
day after day,
to work, to school,
to cook and clean.
Courage is
leaving the world
and all its pleasures.
To pluck out the eye
or hand that causes sin.
To pick up your cross
to follow Christ.
To be still
and know
that He is God.
To count it all joy,
for trials,
for tribulations,
for salvation,
for the grace
to have the
courage to be.
