Author Interview: Tammy Ejimadu

The author for the month of March is the lovely Tammy Ejimadu, author of ‘For Real?’.

I read her debut earlier this month and immediately knew that I would have here on here to know more. I was elated when she granted my request for an online interview. Thank you Tammy!

So here we go…..

The Author:

Tammy Ejimadu (nee Numbere) is passionate about music, writing and the youth ministry. She is  the first child of Apostle Geoffrey D. Numbere (of blessed memory) and Pastor Nonyem Numbere and is fully involved in the publishing ministry of her parents.

With over 14 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry covering multiple roles, she has expertise in Data & Information Management, Quality Assurance & Operations and Sales & Marketing. She currently works as a Sales Account Manager for a varied portfolio consisting of IOCs, Independents and Consultants in Nigeria and West Africa.

Aside her professional life, she is the author of the book “For Real?”, an established choir leader with her debut single “Almighty” released in 2020. She is also a mentor and the convener of the annual program “ The House of Levi”, a forum for Pastors’ & Ministers’ children.

She is married to Victor Ejimadu and they have 3 lovely children.

The Interview:

Tammy has given us a sneak-peak into her life as a writer by answering the 10 questions below. Enjoy…….

COULD YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR MOST RECENT BOOK ‘FOR REAL? AND WHY IT IS A MUST-READ.

Tammy: “For real?” is a compilation of 26 short stories, which are true happenings in my life. It looks at these events through the scriptures and brings to life that God is right at the center, He is always there. It shows that no one is immune from the troubles in this world. We are real people, living in a real world but very assuredly, we have a real God. 

It is a must read for everyone in a few words – inspiring, uplifting, encouraging, relatable and funny! Expect a rollercoaster of emotions though.

WHAT WERE THE EARLY INFLUENCES ON YOUR WRITING AND HOW DO THEY MANIFEST IN YOUR WORK?

Tammy: Early influences are my parents, both of whom are writers. My dad, a missionary was very expressive while preaching. He would use props, passing the message in a very visual and simple way. My mum also is a great chronicler of events. She wrote a book about my dad and his work in the early 70’s (over 500 pages). So, both had a great influence on me.

WHO IS YOUR IDEAL READER? WHO DO YOU WRITE FOR?

Tammy: For this book, my ideal reader is everyone! My kids who are toddlers had fun reading it, as well as much older people.

WHAT IS THE MOST SURPRISING THING YOU DISCOVERED WHILE WRITING?

Tammy: Writing a book is not easy and I really appreciate writers! It’s one thing to write articles, it is another to write a book.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENTS OF GOOD WRITING?

Tammy:  Painting the story in a captivating and chronological order such that your readers can follow you on the journey! I have read books with great ideas, but the message is poorly passed.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE PART AND LEAST FAVOURITE PART OF THE PUBLISHING PROCESS?

Tammy: Favorite part was completing the writing process! It was such a fulfilling feeling. Least favorite, the editing process. Going through the editors, updating their feedback and editing the printer’s work as well. At a point, I told myself, it’s enough!

HOW DO YOU THINK BEING A WRITER HAS HELPED YOU AS A PERSON?

Tammy: It has helped my insights, reasoning and critical thinking. For example, the stories in my book are real happenings in my life but writing helped me relieve the experience and the lessons that those events taught me, some of which I was discovering as I wrote.

WHAT BOOKS HAVE FORTIFIED YOU AS A WRITER?

Tammy: Books by Michelle McKinney Hammond  especially The Diva Principle and of course, A Man and A Vision (Biography of Apostle Numbere) by my mum, Dr. Nonyem Numbere. For now, I am in the religious space, but might consider going into fiction, you never can tell.

HAVE YOU WRITTEN ANY OTHER BOOKS THAT ARE YET TO BE PUBLISHED?

Tammy: I have one book to be published this year. I still don’t have an appropriate title. It is a book for Pastors on raising their children.  I set up a body in 2011 for Pastor’s children called “The House of Levi” and through our meetings, we discuss the special conditions that exist in Pastor’s home. The book is to provide information and advise to Pastors through the eyes of their kids. I hope to publish it sometime in August this year. It is for a target audience – Pastors and those in ministerial roles.

TELL US SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT MANY PEOPLE DON’T KNOW.

Tammy: I am also a singer and I intend to release more singles and my first EP this year.
